After months of waiting for the medical school to get their copy of it to hang in their wellness center, getting it back and waiting on a frame to arrive, I finally have Kaitlyn’s self-portrait drawing hanging in the living room where it will hang for as long as we live here. It’s surrounded by much of the furniture that she had in her apartment. The things that were hers are the table with everything on it and the little rug it sits on. That piece to the right on the table came from Africa when she went there. The book to the left really opens into a box which I have put all her jewelry, her watches, her address written on a piece of paper where she lived that was once in my billfold and two ticket stubbs for when we went to the movies, and her passport. The vase is hers, and the books on the bottom shelf of the table, books by poets and C.S. Lewis. The couch and all the pillows are hers. You can’t see the rest of her things in this pic. When she died I gave my old couch away and put her things in here. She had wonderful taste. All the other stuff in there is mine.
She drew this in art class when she was 18 and won numerous awards. I was and always will be so proud of my wonderful daughter.
