The Roses

I went to your grave two days ago. I was finally able to get onto the roads after the ice and snow storm that we seldom get here. There was still snow everywhere, but the roads were no longer dangerous. I drove to your grave to retrieve the two long stemmed roses we laid there on your birthday, the day you would have been 24, as I knew they would be dead by now and I wanted to remove them. When I got to your grave, it was covered with snow except for the headstone of course. The ground above where your body lies was covered with snow. The roses that we had laid onto the base of your stone were no longer there so I assumed they had blown away with the wind we had. But as I looked closer I saw the faint outline of red rose petals just in front of the base of the stone on the ground. The two roses had fallen there at some point and were covered with snow. The petals were just as red as the day we laid them, the stem and leaves still intact. I dug to try to get them released from their snowy bed, but the snow would not release them unless I tore them to pieces. So I let the lay.

The rose that you are will never die Kaitlyn….but only live on for eternity. I love you.

About gatito2

My name is Rhonda. I'm a registered nurse, for the last 20 years, that has not been able to work since the day I learned of my daughter's death by suicide 4-12-13. (She actually died 4-11-13 and her body was not found until the 12th) Me and my husband have been married for 32 years and he's a wonderful man. We grieve in different ways. He works, I write. This is my journey through this horrible land of losing a child..
