There is something going on with my computer that does not allow me to work with my widgets on wordpress to make links and pics to my sidebar. I’ve had no problem with this in the past. I can got to widgets, but the page does not look the same and there is no block to click and drag the widget to the sidebar that should be there but is not. I’ve been told on the WordPress forum that it must be computer issues. I can’t fix the computer issues. I tried to fix this by going on Kaitlyn’s mac where it shows up correctly there but I am lost when it comes to Macs and I don’t know how to add a picture and link with that thing. I’ve tried until I think I might collapse to figure this problem out to no avail. I wanted to put a link to my sidebar that will take you to the amazon page my book sells on, but I can’t. I also wanted to add a link to my new book “like” page on my sidebar, but I can’t. So I will post it here. I had to resolve to put the link for my amazon book on my “about” page that will not be readily seen as it would on my home page.
Here is a new facebook page I made to get the word out for my book. It’s not only just about my book but other things concerning suicide, videos, and whatnot. Here it is. Please like if you would like.
I’m very frustrated about not being able to adjust my widgets. I’m the kind that tends to obsess over things if I cannot get them right but alas….I think my computer has won the battle and I slink in defeat and bow to its victory. 🙂

UPDATE: Problem solved!! My book link and book facebook link are now on my sidebar. Thank you Uncle Spike for your help!! (it was a browser problem…I changed from Explorer to Chrome)
How strange. Have you tried using a different browser (i.e. Google Chrome, Windows Explorer, Firefox, Opera)? I had issues with my WP Reader last month that was down to my using Opera. but when I switched to Chrome, no problem…
Without access to your blog I cant try it for you obviously. Email me if you need any help that you think I can assist with (uncle.spikes.adventures1@gmail.com). Frustrated I’m sure…

Thank you but I tormented the poor people on the wordpress forum so much and tried so many things that I just gave up. I really think it’s my computer because now when I try to do my windows updates that come up, it always says “failed to upload” and try as I might, I can’t get it to upload it. So it’s this computer that I’m really starting to hate. It’s only a little over two years old, an HP but I have so many problems with it. If using a Mac did not feel like I was visiting a country where no one speaks my language, I would start using Kaitlyn’s but I am so lost on that thing. Thank you though.

I’m with you on Macs… not for me. Sounds like you need to take your pc to someone who can reinstall your operating system, or upgrade it.
I used to have Windows XP Home and the Service Pack II kept failing to install and I had to get my pc reformatted and moved to Windows 7. Problems solved since.

Hey Uncle Spike!! You have the golden touch when it comes to helping me see things right. Someone had suggested using Chrome and I even downloaded it but did not actually look at my blog page with it and look under widgets to see if anything was different. So when you said “Chrome” a bell went off in my head. I went to my blog using Chrome and widgets show up properly there! So it must be a browser problem. I’m using Explorer 9 but it will not let me upgrade to 11.
At any rate, look at my sidebar!! It’s there!! Thank you so much for your help and you helped this obsessed person calm down a bit. 🙂 Thank you, thank you!!

Ah super….. great news Rhonda.
Personally I have steered clear of Windows Explorer since around version 5 – many techies avoid it like the plaque, with most using Chrome, Firefox or Opera I’ve found.
For your Facebook page, there is also a Facebook Like Box widget. That can be used by readers to find your FB page and/or become a FB follower too (especially handy if you use Publicise for your posts). You can see the widget on my sidebar…

For some reason I can get my second facebook widget to show up “like” but I can’t with my first one. I even deleted it and put it back in from scratch and the only thing it shows is “My Facebook.” I checked the same boxes as I did for my book facebook, but nothing I do will make “like” show up on the first one.
Another thing is I can’t understand why there is so much space between those two facebook links. I have one numbered 7 widget and the other one # 8 and there is this huge gap. But I can live with that. Just wondering why.

That widget only works with FB ‘pages’ (eg your book), not for FB profiles (you). The space is coz it is trying to show your FB page image (which is why your book page works).
The link doesn’t work anyway – it should take you straight to the profile (tried this on my blog and works ok. – looks like the FB profile address is wrong in the widget.
HOWEVER… maybe better to use an Image widget I think.
Download an image like http://pixabay.com/en/facebook-mouse-cursor-mouse-pointer-76536/
Then upload to your media library as normal and use it as the İmage URL in the widget
and for the Link URL (when the image is clicked): use your FB profile address.
adjust the image in the widget to say 200 x 100 pixels and centre it
That’ll do it I reckon. I tried it – see the very bottom of my sidebar. Just an idea….

I didn’t change anything but for some reason there is not a big a gap between my two facebook pages. Strange. It’s fine. I can live with the way it is. As long as someone can go to both facebook pages by clicking on them, I will be happy. Thank you so much for all your help!!

Thank you for pointing that out. I must not have clicked on it after I tried redoing it to make sure it connected. Try now. I must not have had the URL in right.
